Hartlepool Fans Went To London Dressed As Smurfs

Fans of League One side Hartlepool have a tradition of dressing up for away games, whenever the mood strikes. Today, for the club’s last match of the season in London against Charlton, the Hartlepool faithful are going as smurfs. They looked like this for the entire trip from the North East of England.

Here they are on an escalator.

In the past, per the fan responsible for organizing the group of grown adults dressed as little blue people, fans have gone as all sorts of characters.

John Pearson, 53, organised the trip that will see the group head on coaches to Eaglescliffe railway station to get the Grand Central train to King’s Cross station, before heading across the capital to Charlton’s The Valley ground.

The purchasing manager from Stockton Road, in Hartlepool, said: “We’ve been doing it on and off ever since 1987 when we went to Chorley.

“The last few years it’s really taken off with the younger lads getting involved and their mates coming along.

“We’ve done all sorts from Mexicans to Oompa Loompas, someone’s always got a good idea.

It’s good that the younger lads are getting involved. Kinda glad they didn’t choose something along the lines of “Mexicans” this year. That sounds like it was probably pretty racist.
