Back in our younger days (or now, if you’re currently in your younger days), we all did amazingly fun things we weren’t supposed to do that eventually led to our missing out on other really fun things we really wanted to do. It’s a tradeoff you make because you’re young and stupid and what’s happening now means way more than stuff that will happen in the future. Not wild out right now because we might get in trouble? Pssh, that’s for old dudes who drink scotch and read Tolstoy. Yann M’Vila is young, and Yann M’Vila had fun, and now Yann M’Vila will miss 21 months of international soccer.
During last month’s playoffs for the 2013 U-21 European Championships, M’Vila and four teammates took a prohibited excursion to Paris hit a nightclub. Being famous footballers, they were spotted, and word got back to the FFF. With the issues of World Cup 2010 fresh in the minds of everyone in French football, the punishment was swift and severe.
“I don’t know if the word ‘disappointed’ is enough, and not just for him, but for all five,’ France head coach Didier Deschamps said. “What they did is incompatible with the France shirt.”
The Rennes midfielder, per a federation statement, is banned from playing for France until June 30, 2014. Rennes also punished M’Vila, dropping him from the first team and forcing him to play with the reserves.
M’Vila has a history of bad judgement. He’s been arrested for slapping a 17-year old friend. He refused to shake Laurent Blanc’s hand after being substituted in France’s Euro 2012 quarterfinal match with Spain.
Hope that night out in Paris was worth it, Yann. We’re positive you looked good. Bottle service, right?
