Treasures of eBay is a feature where we wade through the mountains of bollocks on eBay to bring you an auction we think is worth a second look.
Today’s treasure is a soccer ball signed by the 1979 Minnesota Kicks with an asking price of $695.00.
Call us soccer nerds if you want, but this is some pretty cool history right here. In the heyday of the old North American Soccer League, the Minnesota Kicks, despite their awful name, were one of the nation’s leading clubs. In their eight seasons (six outdoor, two indoor), the Kicks never finished below 2nd in their division, and at their height, drew crowds that would make just about every MLS team not called “Sounders” green with envy.
This ball is signed by their 1979 team that finished top of the National Conference Central Division. Among the players on that team were names like South African legend Patrick “Ace” Ntsoelengoe, denied an international career by FIFA’s exclusion of Apartheid South Africa; Alan Willey, the second-highest all-time goalscorer in NASL history; and Tim Twellman, one-shot US International and father of former New England and USMNT striker and current TV analyst Taylor.
That’s right, kids. For seven hundred bucks, you can have a soccer ball signed by the concussion guy’s dad.
