Treasures of eBay is a feature where we wade through the mountains of bollocks on eBay to bring you an auction we think is worth a second look.
Today’s treasure is a two ape children soccer costumes from the 2001 Tim Burton film, “Planet of the Apes” with a buy it now price of $2,500.00.
Thing I just learned, thanks to a search for “soccer” at eBay: The 2001 remake of the 60s classic “Planet of the Apes”, starring Mark Wahlberg in the Charlton Heston role (which is like casting Pauley Shore to reprise the role played by Dustin Hoffman in The Graduate, but I digress), has soccer in it. Ape soccer. Played by teams of ape children, one made up of chimps, one made up of gorillas. Want to buy the costumes? Because they’re available.
The scene is short, and you’ll probably remember the ape children better for having thrown rocks at the rolling cage holding Mark Wahlberg’s character. The tiny bit of future-ape soccer that takes place occurs just before the ape children decide throwing rocks at dirty humans is more fun than kicking around a ball.
If you’re a massive movie buff and a massive soccer fan and like for your passions to collide (in which case the uniforms from Victory are probably your collectible nirvana), this might be a cool collection to pick up.
