Today’s treasure is a Porsche 911 Turbo Cabriolet, heavily customised by a former owner named ‘David Beckham’. At the time of writing, it’s going for $55,350, which is below its reserve.
If there’s one thing Sir David of Beckham enjoys more than a visit to the salon, it’s a visit to the car showroom. Since moving to California, the Galaxy star’s garage has included a Lincoln Navigator, a Cadillac Escalade, a GMC Yukon Denali, an armor-plated (!) BMW X5, and the car that no environmentalist should be without, the Hummer H2. Not a bad collection for a guy who first turned up for training at Manchester Utd in a clapped-out Ford Escort.
It’s said that Beckham shared his first kiss with Posh Spice in a 911, so it’s unsurprising that he ordered a tricked-out version of the German auto in 2007. This particular Porker has blacked-out headlights, five-spoke ‘deep dish’ alloys, and his Galaxy squad number ‘23’ branded on the headrests, the wheels and even the Porsche badge itself.
Plenty of Beckham’s cars end up on eBay, and as a car nut and professional DB web stalker, I happen to know this isn’t the first time this particular one has been listed. Earlier this year, a California dealer called Chequered Flag made $217,000 on it after 45 bids. A pretty decent return, seeing that the Englishman paid just over $147,000 for it new.
It now finds itself back at Beverly Hills Porsche, where it was originally purchased and where it earned the moniker “The Celebrity Batmobile”. Whether its new owner will be able to land a Spice Girl in it remains to be seen…
