Bad Korea

The North Korean Cup Final Was Attended By 150,000 People In Suits

Jason Davis, November 5, 2012

It’s a fact that things were better back when people wore suits to sporting events. It’s also a fact that cheering at sporting events these days is too haphazard and chaotic. That’s why I’m so happy to see 150,000 North Koreans gathered at Rungrado Stadium in Pyongyang for the final of whichever North Korean competition this is (details are a little hazy), wearing suits, politely applauding like an opera audience, and occasionally clapping in a rhythmic fashion. Decorum, people. It never goes out of style.

Congratulations go out to April 25 Sports Club, who beat Sonbong 2-1 to win a life-sized statue of Kim Jong-un. Probably.

On a serious note, how do 150,000 people make so little noise?
