That Lionel Messi – what a guy, huh? After breaking German great Gerd Muller’s 40-year old calendar-year goal-scoring record, the Barcelona attacker sent along a token of respect in the form of a signed Barcelona shirt. The inscription reads “With my respect and admiration.” Now Gerd can hang a reminder that his record is broken on his wall for all the world to see.
I suppose “With my respect and admiration” is slightly more appropriate than the messages Cristiano Ronaldo would have written if he’d broken Gerd’s record. Things like:
“What’s the word, Gerd? I broke your record, that’s what.”
“I am laughing at you 91 times, once for every goal I scored this year.”
“You’re really old.”
Good thing Messi is so damn nice.
