American play-by-play man Gus Johnson is legendary for his over-the-top calls of things like American football and college basketball, but wasn’t, until a few weeks ago, part of the growing American soccer culture. Now Gus is calling San Jose Earthquakes games on the radio and picking an English team to support based on his New York neighborhood.
That’s right—Gus picked Chelsea because he lives in New York’s Chelsea neighborhood.

The reviews aren’t yet in on Gus’s soccer efforts (he did his first game last Saturday, and will do another on April 28th), but you can bet he’ll do everything he can to make it as exciting as possible.
